# Slack

> Where alerts, investigations, and requests happen.

**1. Connect**

Go to **Connections**, click **Connect** next to Slack, and authorize the Ordyn app in your workspace.

**2. Invite Ordyn to channels**

Invite `@Ordyn` to any channel where you want to mention it or have it read alerts.

**3. Configure channels in Triage**

On the **Triage** page, choose which channels receive Ordyn's alerts, which existing alert channels Ordyn should auto-investigate, and each channel's sensitivity.

## Permissions

Ordyn's Slack app asks for bot scopes only, so it never acts as you. Reconnect Slack from Connections to grant scopes added later.

### Messages and threads

Read the messages Ordyn is mentioned in and the threads it works in, and reply.

Scopes: `app_mentions:read`, `channels:history`, `groups:history`, `im:history`, `mpim:history`, `metadata.message:read`, `chat:write`, `assistant:write`.

### Channels

Find channels, join the ones you invite Ordyn to, and read their details.

Scopes: `channels:read`, `channels:join`, `groups:read`, `im:read`, `mpim:read`.

### Create channels

Create a public or private channel, such as a channel for alerts. Only needed if you ask Ordyn to create one.

Scopes: `channels:manage`, `groups:write`.

### Files and canvases

Read files and canvases shared with Ordyn, and attach charts and reports.

Scopes: `files:read`, `files:write`, `canvases:read`.

### Links

Unfurl links to Ordyn investigations.

Scopes: `links:read`, `links:write`, `links.embed:write`.

### Reactions

Read and add reactions to show progress.

Scopes: `reactions:read`, `reactions:write`.

### People and workspace

Resolve who is in a conversation.

Scopes: `users:read`, `users:read.email`, `users.profile:read`, `team:read`.

### Calls

Read call details shared in channels.

Scopes: `calls:read`.

* If your workspace connected before `channels:manage` and `groups:write` were added, reconnect Slack from Connections before asking Ordyn to create channels.

Permission catalog version `2026-10-16.1`. See [permission changes](/reference/permission-changes).

## What you can do

* Mention Ordyn anywhere it has been invited to start an investigation.
* Reply in any Ordyn thread to ask follow-ups or to change monitoring.
* Turn on **Auto-join incident channels** so Ordyn joins new `inc-*` style channels and starts investigating.
* Turn on **Private investigations** for private channels whose investigations should never appear in the web app.

See [Working with Ordyn in Slack](/slack/overview) for the details.

Ordyn does not read or respond in shared channels from other Slack workspaces.
